ABOUT US

Carousel Theatre  was founded in 2006 by Emily Wade and Griff Mellhuish, who have over 60 years of theatrical experience between them.

All of our shows are specially written for residential homes and day centres and are performed by experienced, professional actors.

Griff Mellhuish

Griff graduated as a scholarship student from the 3 year actors course at the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts, London in 1995. Since then he has worked as an actor, director and writer for companies all over the country including, Parasol Productions, DGO, Legend Theatre, Classic Theatre and Spin Off Productions. He has also appeared in television roles, including the Ruth Rendell Mysteries and in various corporate and feature films.

He is also a trained puppeteer and has been lucky enough to work for several years with the internationally acclaimed, Puppeteers' Company, with master puppeteers, Steve Lee and Peter Franklin.

Griff also enjoys writing and delivering workshops at drama schools across London and volunteers for the Theatre Charity, 'Scene and Heard', who provide the children of Somers Town in London the opportunity to write and perform in their own productions with industry professionals. Emily Wade

Emily and Griff first worked together in 2001, with the Hull based Spin Off Productions. Together, they devised and delivered drama projects and workshops to schools, community groups and additional needs centres across the Yorkshire and Humberside region.

In 2005, they decided to continue their working partnership back in London and formed Smalltalk Productions, taking Spin Off’s theatre in education shows to schools across the South. It was whilst touring with these shows that they identified a need for quality, professional entertainment in residential homes and community groups.  So began the Carousel Theatre Company!

We are committed to bringing professional small scale theatre shows, to anyone who cannot get out to the theatre themselves. This includes residential  care homes, community groups, day centres and additional needs groups. We have seen the beneficial effects that music and theatre can have, particularly with dementia patients and those with additional needs.

This year, we are looking forward to working with the Alzheimers Society, providing specialized drama workshops and performances.
